“Gospel to All Nations” Through Information Technology

On June 1st, the Gospel and Information Technology held a service at the GNIT headquarters in Dover with nearly 40 GNIT members in attendance. Pastor David Chang delivered the anniversary sermon, focusing on Psalm 78:1-8 as the central passage.

In his message, Pastor Chang emphasized the role of GNIT in supporting the Great Commission through the use of information technology. He explained that the letter “G” in GNIT represents not only “Gospel” but also “Global,” highlighting GNIT’s connection to the mission of preaching the Gospel to all nations.

Referencing Psalm 78, Pastor Chang spoke about the importance of passing on the works and words of God to the next generation. He said that GNIT’s responsibility includes preserving the teachings, testimonies, and church history so that future generations will remember and follow God’s commands.

He shared an experience from Australia, where someone questioned the connection between IT and faith. This moment led him to think more deeply about how digital tools are used in the church to support ministry work. He noted that IT supports every area of ministry, including websites, data storage, and protection of digital resources.

Pastor Chang drew a comparison between today’s IT ministers and the Essenes, a historical group believed to have preserved the Dead Sea Scrolls. He listed six points of similarity between the two:

Preservation of the Word – GNIT stores sermons, messages, and church records to maintain the accuracy of the church’s history.

Integrity and security – Just as ancient scribes copied texts carefully, IT ministers use encryption and backups to avoid data loss or corruption.

Archiving for future generations – Data is stored in ways that allow future believers to access the materials, even long after the present generation is gone.

Work behind the scenes – Many IT tasks are done quietly, without public recognition, but remain essential to church operations.

Use of current tools – GNIT uses the best available technologies of the time, such as servers, cloud storage, and digital platforms.

Mission-focused organization – IT ministers organize resources to support mission work and church growth globally.

Pastor Chang said that while property and physical assets are passed on to the next generation, it is also necessary to pass on the spiritual content – the “software” – which includes teachings, testimonies, and the Word of God. Without this, future generations may lose connection to the church’s mission and identity.

He explained that Psalm 78:1-8 shows the responsibility of one generation to teach the next. The passage emphasizes remembering God’s deeds and keeping His commandments, and warns of the risk of forgetting these truths if they are not properly preserved and shared.

The sermon concluded with a prayer for all GNIT members, recognizing their service and asking for strength to continue the work. Pastor Chang encouraged them to carry the responsibility of preserving and passing on God’s Word and works, so that the next generation can remain faithful.
